A
beautiful photo of a full house at a day game at Shibe Park from the 1950s. Let's let Alan Luber describe his
experience with this shot:
I spent an
eyeball-straining week restoring the original photo digitally to
remove blemishes, scratches, dirt, and creases. It was a difficult
job, but the results are absolutely stunning.
This is the best interior
black and white picture of Connie Mack Stadium / Shibe Park I have
ever seen -- perhaps the best one in existence.
The photo was taken in the
1950's. I am unable to tell whether it is the Phillies or
Athletics that are playing, but I suspect that it is the Athletics
as there are no pinstripes on any of the uniforms. This would
place the picture in the early 1950's.
The WIBG radio
station banner is clearly visible underneath the press booth on
the third base line, and I am told that WIBG broadcast both the
A's and Phillies games in the early 1950's.
This is a photo of a day
game with a full house -- another strong indication that this was
not the Phillies.
If you grew up watching
games in Connie Mack Stadium/Shibe Park, this is a must have for
your collection.
